Mary's Run by Michael Stone and David A. Cole (Based on a True Story)

Set against the backdrop of the Civil War, Mary¹s Run is the story of three of the most powerful women in U.S. history. MARY ELIZABETH BOWSER was an African American who was educated and freed by her friend and mentor, ELIZABETH VAN LEW. Mary then returned to slavery of her own volition to act as a spy in the Confederate White House. She was a genius, possessed of a photographic memory, but pretended to be an illiterate slave girl in order to become the trusted servant of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his wife Varina.

Mary served tea to the likes of Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson at top-secret meetings, surreptitiously memorizing their battle plans, as well as troop strength and movement. At night, she re-drew their maps and wrote extensive notes from memory, then, putting coded messages in the false heels of her shoes, she ran miles to secret rendezvous¹ with Elizabeth and the woman known as the black Moses, HARRIET TUBMAN.

This script is based on the true life stories of these three women who risked their lives to change the course of history.
